Week 5 EOC: Social Networks and Job Hunting

Social Media is the way of the future.  Not only to keep connected with family and friends, but for advertising, employment and marketing.  Who would of thought that you could find a job while chatting with your friends on Facebook.  According to an article in Wall Street Journal,” If current growth trends continue, Facebook could rival traditional job boards in 2012, said Jobs2Webanalytics manager Phil Schrader.” (Wall Street journal, Recruters Troll Facebook for candidates they like) We could be using Facebook for almost everything.  Even the marketers are jumping on the Facebook train to promote products. In the text Kotler says “ These days, thanks to modern technology, armed with little more than a video camera, laptop, and a cell phone, anyone can spread the word about products and brand experiences to thousands, even millions, of other consumers. (Marketing an Introduction, Armstrong/Kotler, pg 144)  Marketers need to go where the people are and where people are looking and spending there spare time.  The smart thing about marketing through Facebook is that you can target certain demographics.  Most users place their specific likes and brands they like right on their wall.  This seems to be a marketing jackpot.  The users of Facebook are doing all the work for them.  What are most people on Facebook doing on the site?  They are sharing random thoughts on things they like or experiences they had with certain products and opening themselves up and sharing personal information.  If this Facebook fad or trend stays around, it will become a one-stop shop for all your job-hunts, shopping, dating and communicating needs.  It is a scary time we live in.  This could hurt society by less actual foot work in these areas, or it could help due to the ease of use.  Time will only tell.
