Week 3 EOC: My Demographics

Millennials (also called Generation Y or the echo boomers). Born between 1977 and 2000, these children of the baby boomers number 83 million, dwarfing the Gen Xers and larger even than the baby boomer segment. This group includes several age cohorts: tweens (aged 9–12), teens (13–18), and young adults (19–32). With total purchasing power of more than $733 billion, the Millennials make up a huge and attractive market.1 (Advetures of Marketin, Armstrong, Kotler, Chap 3, pg.73)  I am at the very early stages of this generation.  I didn’t have a computer in my house until I was about 12 or 13.  And at that time I didn’t even care.  I was outside playing.  Playing is a strange concept to most of the youth of today.  I had text books at school, had to use encyclopedias for information and read newspaper for news.   I listened to music on tapes and eventually CD’s.  In late elementary school we started using computers, but very little.  I remember playing a few games like Number Munchers and Oregon Trail in a lab.  The internet reached my home in 1993 or 1994.  It was slow and frusterating.  I remember not being able to use the phone at the same time because it used the same line.  I would still rather be out playing.  I am now 34 and pursuing a career in audio and most of the technology is computer based or online.  I am learning to cope, but it does not come as naturally as I see it does for the younger generation.
